During carnival, revellers can visit the Safe Space to find peace and quiet after experiencing inappropriate behaviour.

Safe Space returns during carnival in Kruikenstad 2026

Following a successful pilot in 2025, a quiet space will once again be set up on Stadhuisplein in Tilburg during carnival. This is where partygoers can go if they feel unsafe, experience inappropriate or (sexually) unwanted behaviour, or just want to take a break.

Carnival is a celebration for everyone, but it doesn't always feel that way. Unwanted touching, street harassment or discriminatory comments can abruptly turn a fun evening into an unpleasant experience. The Safe Space is intended for carnival revellers who want to catch their breath and share their story, need support or just want to escape the hustle and bustle. Experts are on hand to listen and, if desired, can help with follow-up steps, such as referral to Victim Support, Blauwe Maan, Feniks Emancipation Expertise Centre or the police.

Part of a broader approach

The Safe Space is part of a broader campaign against street harassment, set up by the Brabant cities of Tilburg, Breda, Eindhoven and “s-Hertogenbosch. Under the slogan 'Nie graoie, mar zwaoie” (Don't touch, just wave), attention is drawn to desirable behaviour during the festival.
