Stad Voor Makers: Dock Zuid
Tilburg is a breeding ground for creative talent. That soil is created by our vibrant makerscene, but also by the facilities in the city that contribute to an excellent production climate. And those facilities we like to highlight for you!
With this time in our spotlight Dock Zuid, a development place and free space for musical makers. A home for music in Brabant, located on the Ringbaan-Oost in Tilburg. Together with a collective of makers they create a free play space and work on a healthy and sustainable breeding ground for music and society. Dock Zuid is specifically committed to musical makers.
At Dock Zuid, you get the opportunity to try something out and experiment. Makers with ideas for cool projects can approach the organization for a collaboration. Dock Zuid facilitates the space. Musicians of all genres and styles are welcome. Dock South invites them to think more broadly and move forward together. “When we started Dock Zuid in 2019, there were four creators associated with us. We have since grown to a collective of 22 makers. Makers connected to Dock Zuid use our spaces and share knowledge with each other. We also take care of each other and the spaces as a collective.” According to Dock Zuid, that collectivity is the foundation of music: “We think it's important to look beyond the making itself. What do you need as a creator to perform well? We believe that is a combination of both physical and mental space. That physical space is something you can find at more studios or studios. That mental space is often limited by stress about finances or other things you have to deal with as an independent maker. By providing that collectively, we can help each other where we can and thus also provide more mental space to be creative."
In addition to providing space and opportunities, Dock Zuid also organizes various events in and around the 3Suisses building, such as the Senses of Change festival in October.
