The Alma Quartet consists of Marc Daniel van Biemen (first violin), Benjamin Peled (second violin), Jeroen Woudstra (viola) and Joris van den Berg (cello). These musicians, affiliated with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, strike a unique balance between precision, emotion and musicality. The ensemble is renowned for its rich sound and profound interpretations, in which tradition and innovation go hand in hand. In addition to well-known masterpieces, they also delve into lesser-known works and groundbreaking collaborations.

During this concert, you will enjoy a varied programme featuring music by three composers. You will hear the intense lyricism of Samuel Barber's String Quartet No. 1, including the world-famous Adagio for Strings. This will be followed by the energetic dynamics of John Adams' String Quartet No. 3 “Alma”. The concert concludes with the romantic opulence and cinematic melodies of Erich Wolfgang Korngold's String Quartet No. 1 in A major.
