Books around the palace

Boeken rond het paleis klein

On Sunday 31 August, the Tilburg book market “Boeken rond het Paleis” (Books around the Palace) will take place again in the centre of Tilburg around Willemsplein and the Paleis-Raadhuis from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is one of the largest book markets in the Netherlands and is now in its 27th edition.

Book market

The Tilburg book market has over 170 stalls offering a wide range of books, from novels and biographies to cookbooks, travel stories and rare gems. Visitors can also enjoy live music from The Hague duo Frendzz and have their books appraised by antiquarian Thomas Leeuwenberg, who has been running the De Rijzende Zon antiquarian bookshop for over forty years.

Performances and music at the Palace-Town Hall

From 12:00 to 14:00, the Colourful Mama Stories Choir will perform on the steps of the Palace-Town Hall. This open, multicultural choir brings together women from different backgrounds and shows how music connects people. The performances will be interspersed with carillon music by city carillonneur Carl Van Eyndhoven, who will play songs chosen by the new city poet. In addition, there will be space for a creative activity with nu-bottle mail at the Tilt stall.

LocHal

Starting at 2 p.m., the LocHal will present Wat Woorden Willen (What Words Want), with the inauguration of city poet Najiba Abdellaoui and a farewell poem by Frederike Luijten. There will also be performances by Iris Penning and the Poetry Circle, led by Frank van Pamelen.

Drinks at the Piushaven

After browsing the stalls, it's time for the very first Book Borrel. From 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., you are welcome at De Graanhandel on Piushaven to chat, share your finds and raise a glass with other enthusiasts.
