The evening begins with Edward Elgar’s famous Cello Concerto. A personal and intense work, in which the English composer seems to give voice to the emotions and impact of the First World War. Vulnerable, melancholic, yet at the same time powerful: Elgar knows how to translate feelings into music and will be played by Liav Kerbel. Cellist Liav Kerbel offers his own fresh and imaginative interpretation of Elgar’s remarkable score. This infuses the well-known cello concerto with new energy, making the work sound both familiar and surprising.
After the subdued sounds of Elgar, the atmosphere changes completely. With Stravinsky’s 'The Firebird', the orchestra bursts into life. The mythical Firebird symbolises rebirth and happiness and takes on a colourful and spectacular sound in Stravinsky’s music. From gentle, sensitive moments to powerful orchestral sounds: this evening with Philzuid takes you on a musical journey full of emotion, imagination and contrast. A concert for anyone who loves to let themselves be completely carried away by music.
