Slice of life: taking a closer look at what we usually walk right past

From September 5 - 13, 2026, Tilburg will transform into one big stage for illustration and graphic art. For nine days, Tilburg will become an open-air festival for illustration and graphic art, featuring an extensive window display route showcasing work by more than 25 illustrators, the Graphic Art Market, urban sketching sessions, workshops, an XXL coloring page, and activities in and around the meter-high illustration pavilion in the Spoorpark. The theme, “Slice of Life,” revolves around the small moments of everyday life: an encounter on the street, someone on the bus, or a dog with its owner. Just looking - but with a slightly different perspective.

Illustrada is bringing illustration back to the streets of Tilburg, with artwork in store windows, in public squares, and in the Spoorpark. You can also get creative yourself. For example, illustrator, animator, and teacher Tosca van der Weerden is organizing a free drawing workshop on Thursday, September 10, at Boekhandel Gianotten Mutsaers. No drawing talent or perfect picture required: the workshop is all about observing closely, experimenting, and discovering what your own perspective reveals.
