In this biting satire on the shameless exploitation of pain and grief, as well as on fame, success, and failure, the chaotic Russia of the 1990s plays a central role. At the center is Semyon Podsekayev, an unemployed and desperate man who has missed the opportunities of the new era. When even his last attempt to make something of his life fails, he sees only one way out. But before he can take that step, a group of opportunists and profiteers intervenes to benefit themselves.
