The men of the Corsican music group I Muvrini are now seasoned artists. But nearly 40 years after their debut album, their message remains unchanged: respect where you come from, the earth and your fellow man.

Where tradition and innovation come together

I Muvrini's music is characterized by soothing, polyphonic singing and the use of traditional instruments such as the bagpipes, accordion and de cetera, a sixteen-string zither. Drums, bass and guitar sometimes add a contemporary touch. Thanks to this unique blend of tradition and innovation, the group has made a name for itself worldwide. A highlight was its collaboration with Sting in 2000, singing along on Terre d'Oru, a Corsican arrangement of Fields of Gold.

Between stage and home ground

Over the next few months, I Muvrini will tour stages in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany, returning in August to Corsica, the place where their roots lie. “For our music, it is essential that we always come home to our native soil,” Jean-François Bernardini says about this.

Music, culture and compassion

Band figurehead Jean-François Bernardini is a tireless advocate of spirituality, pacifism, diversity and everything that connects people. With his foundation, he is committed to preserving Corsican culture and teaches courses in nonviolence in high schools. On the recent album Luciole (glow worm), he calls attention to Muslims under pressure from terrorist attacks in European cities and shows understanding for people risking their lives on rickety boats. “You don't put your children on a raft unless the water is safer than the land you live on.”
