As the son of the legendary Ali Farka Touré, Vieux Farka Touré inherited a world-class musical tradition, but he quickly put his own unique spin on it. His music is deeply rooted in the Malian desert blues that made his father famous, while at the same time effortlessly embracing new influences. With his self-titled debut, Vieux immediately established himself as an artist in his own right. Since then, album after album, he has proven that he not only preserves tradition but also pushes it forward. On the album Les Racines (2022), he returned to the essence of Malian blues, while on Ali—his special collaboration with Khruangbin—he reinterpreted his father’s repertoire in an atmospheric and almost spiritual encounter. His guitar playing is virtuosic, intense, and deeply lived-in: every note carries the warmth, the rhythm, and the dust of the desert within it.
