Wall painting Aziz Lessy

This mural on Korte Schijfstraat is a colourful, three-dimensional work of art that transforms a narrow alleyway into a small art gallery.

About the artwork

The mural in Korte Schijfstraat is more than just a picture — it is a poetic, sensory experience. Using 3D stucco, poetry and colour, Aziz Lessy, in collaboration with former city poet Cees Van Raak, takes street art to a new dimension. He shows how art can transform public space and engage local residents. The alleyway is a “gallery” open to everyone. The integration of Cees van Raak's Plekgedicht (Place Poem) makes the mural not only visually but also literarily meaningful. The text invites passers-by to reflect and feels like an emotional time machine connecting the past and the present.

About the artists

Aziz Lessy is a fixture on Tilburg's street art scene. He has created several works in the city, including the bicycle tunnel at Stappegoor. He advocates for a mural route through Tilburg, together with residents and others, to make the city more sustainable and enrich it. Cees van Raak is a poet and writer, and was Tilburg's city poet from 2009 to 2011. He writes poetry, but also writes extensively about the history and heritage of Tilburg. With his words, he brings the stories of the city and its people close and recognisable.
