It's already a delight to gaze upon the chocolate creations in the display cases of the shop on Willem II-straat. But once you pop one into your mouth, it's pure bliss. With our mouths full of chocolate, we attempted to strike up a conversation with owner Dries.
What makes Friandries unique?
"Innovation in the traditional chocolate market is what Friandries stands for. We create surprising chocolate experiences with ingredients you won't easily find at another chocolatier's. These are little works of art that tantalize the senses, a combination of the finest ingredients in the right balance. The ultimate goal? To provide the ultimate chocolate experience for the adventurous chocolate lover, the connoisseur, and everyone who thought they didn't like chocolate."
What do people come to your store for?
"Customers come to us for the bonbons. In the store on Willem II-straat, everyone can customize a luxury box of bonbons by choosing from a selection of 20 different ones. These are divided into eight flavor categories: sweet, sour, salty, bitter, umami, herbs, spices, and spicy. They stand out for their striking designs and colors. Additionally, many curious customers return each month for the 'skull of the month,' which is a monthly rotating bonbon featuring seasonal ingredients with a surprising twist."
What is typically Tilburgian about your store?
"Tilburg is woven into the origins of Friandries. In the creative heart of 013, there's always something happening; everywhere you look, you see colors, hear sounds, and feel life flowing. The Tilburg vibes are an endless source of inspiration. Moreover, the team consists of locals, embracing the city's ethos of thinking big (started as a bean now we're here), and embodying the Burgundian hospitality. At Friandries, time is taken for every customer through chatting and tasting a bonbon. The door of the chocolate atelier is always open for anyone curious to take a peek."
