International musical star Pia Douwes reprises her role as Empress Elisabeth, the ambitious and empathetic woman who fell in love with Emperor Franz Joseph at a young age. As the obligations of court life slowly closed in on her, her struggle is powerfully conveyed in songs like I Belong to Me. Other leading roles are played by William Spaaij, Milan van Waardenburg (Les Misérables), and Ann van den Broeck.
