Since 1998, Groundation has established a unique position within the roots reggae scene. The Californian band, led by singer-songwriter Harrison Stafford, combines warm reggae rhythms with jazz influences, dub elements and an energetic live style in which improvisation plays a key role.

About the band

Their first albums, Young Tree and Each One Teach One, laid the foundations for their distinctive sound, whilst 2002’s Hebron Gate marked their international breakthrough and introduced the band to a global audience with their progressive roots style. After several original members left in 2018, Stafford put together a new line-up featuring musicians who, like him, had studied at Sonoma State University in California.

Candle Burning

After more than twenty years and an impressive string of studio albums, Groundation released Candle Burning earlier this year: an album recorded entirely on analogue equipment, with a focus on atmosphere and sound quality. The recordings took place at ICP Studio in Brussels. In addition, a new live album is due for release in March 2026. Reggae fans can look forward to a special evening at 013, where they can experience both new material and the familiar energy up close.
