In August, the garden of Theater De Nieuwe Vorst will once again be transformed into an open-air cinema! Expect a special film programme under the stars, kicking off with a short film by a young filmmaker. The directors have been asked: which feature film do you think fits perfectly with your own work, and why?

Who listens to the Hûnekop

On Thursday 14 August, filmmaker Sibrich Wijnia will be our guest with her short documentary Wie luistert er naar de Hûnekop (Who listens to the Hûnekop). This will be followed by Kneecap, an energetic and musical feature film by Rich Peppiatt about a Northern Irish rap group. In the short documentary Wie luistert er naar de Hûnekop, you follow the story of the rock band Hûnekop during a sultry tent party in the Frisian woods. Their rugged image and Frisian music make them special to their fans. Her style is in line with Kneecap, in which music, language and origin are also central as a form of resistance and connection.

Kneecap

Kneecap tells the story of the eponymous Northern Irish rap group, who play themselves in this biopic. Their music is funny, confrontational and bilingual: Irish and English. The film is set in the scarred city of Belfast and premiered at Sundance, where it won the Audience Award. Director Rich Peppiatt mixes documentary style with punk energy. Kneecap not only sounds loud, but also makes itself heard: from Coachella to Best Kept Secret, the trio expresses a distinct, activist voice.

Practical information

The film starts as soon as it gets dark, around 9 p.m. In case of bad weather, it will be moved to the Main Hall. Admission is pay what you want, with tickets starting at €2.
