Who are you really? And who are you when you are forced to flee your country and face the harsh realities of the world? What does it do to your identity when you are seen as “the other” by those around you? "As I Left My Father's House" presents the moving stories of people who left their homes behind and had to face the darker sides of society-polarization, violence, war and extremism. In their search for guidance, they turn to religion and the stories of prophets, which give them strength during their perilous journey. At the same time, they wrestle with a profound question: how does my experience affect the life and future of my children?

Meaning, self-development and migration

As I Left My Father's House is a theatrical performance that invites reflection on meaning, self-development and migration. The play was developed by Bright O. Richards, who fled the war in Liberia in 1991 and is now artistic director of New Dutch Connections. The performance highlights life's great challenges and prompts reflection. Where do you find footing in difficult times? How natural is empathy and connection with others. With a powerful combination of true stories, moving music and song, As I Left My Father's House touches a chord, especially now, in a world where millions of people are on the run. Afterwards, you are welcome to engage in conversation with the creators.
