You become what you chew - Vera Meulendijks

Variety works. After a few “old hands” in the business, there is room for young up-and-coming talent. Very different work, but very refreshing! Welcome to Vera Meulendijks' exhibition “You become what you chew” in the Metropolitan Museum.

Variety works. After a few “old hands” in the business, there is room for young up-and-coming talent. Very different work, but very refreshing! Welcome to Vera Meulendijks' exhibition “You become what you chew” in the Metropolitan Museum. Spread over ten windows, she shows her latest spatial work, sleekly designed and extremely colourful. It is bursting with colour.

Beauty in the imperfect

The artist seeks beauty in the imperfect, the just not right. Meulendijks: "Between glass, ceramics, textiles and industrial surplus, a world emerges that is both carefully constructed and feels slightly dislocated. What seems taut tilts on closer inspection." See for yourself.

Opposites

Her work moves between opposites, between control and chance, perfection and deviation, between order and chaos: "Artificial forms suggest something alive, while rigid geometry feels organic. An image becomes an object, an object an image." Her idiosyncratic style with glossy forms and rhythmically repeating colours results in a surprisingly energetic exhibition.

The exhibition

'You become what you chew' also invites you to stand still. What do you perceive? What do you take with you? Meulendijks' work explores what we take in - literally and visually - and how it shapes us.

The exhibition “You become what you chew” runs from Saturday 4 July to Sunday 31 August 2025 at the “Metropolitan Museum”. An exhibition on ten windows, open daily, day and night, admission free.
