A nest, a basket

Een nest, een mand

Since 2013, the Burgerijpad in Tilburg has been home to Nick J. Swarth's location-specific poem Een nest, een mand (A nest, a basket). The poem adds a poetic layer to the surroundings and invites passers-by to pause for a moment and reflect on language in public spaces.

About the work

In the left over space in the back garden of the De Hond family, they had houses built for their two sons. They asked Nick J. Swarth to write a fitting “Place Poem” for the large empty wall of one of the houses. The poem refers to the family, the heirs and the dream. A fitting poem for this place. The poem plays with the meaning of security and shelter. It shows how words can subtly change a place. This gives the Burgerijpad its own identity.
