The street poem Blnde Vlek (Blind Spot) at Tuinstraat plays with visibility and absurd language.

About the artwork

The title “blind spot” refers to the “blind spot”: a place that is easy to overlook when you look directly at it. However, from a different angle, it comes into its own. The poem was added in 2010, making it Tilburg's second “location poem”. The letters are blue and deliberately distorted in perspective, giving the poem a three-dimensional effect. From the right angle (such as from the crossroads), the text appears to come off the wall.

About the artists

This unique piece of street poetry was conceived by former city poet Nick J. Swarth in collaboration with typographer Sander Neijnens, as part of the “Plekgedichten” (Place Poems) project, commissioned by various initiators such as “KORT” and the municipality of Tilburg. Nick J. Swarth is a poet, performer and visual artist based in Tilburg. His work is characterised by a distinctly absurdist, critical and playful tone. Sander Neijens is a typographer and designer and also the creator of the well-known “TilburgsAns”. A typographical project that combines a unique image of Tilburg with practical graphic design.
