Hostel Sint Anna
On Sint Annaplein, a former boarding house is located. High up on the facade, there is an emphatic reference to former local resident Vincent van Gogh on the plaque.
Former resident
Vincent went to live with Jan and Adriana Hannik at Korvel 57, now Sint Annaplein 18-19. On the square is a steel silhouette of 13-year-old Vincent, along with a special ‘benkske’ and two spades. These spades are based on a sketch presumably made by Van Gogh during his almost two-year stay in Tilburg. Another special feature of the square is the use of climate-resistant Rain(a)Way tiles, which allow for better water drainage. These tiles are executed in colours that evoke the atmosphere of Van Gogh's Brabant period.
