This autumn, De Pont Museum presents a double premiere by Hamza Halloubi: his first feature film Vizor (2024) and a new installation work group about the disappeared politician Mehdi Ben Barka (1920-1965).

Mehdi Ben Barka

In his latest work, Hamza Halloubi delves into one of the greatest political mysteries of the 20th century: the disappearance of Mehdi Ben Barka in Paris in 1965. Using 3D animation, he allows Ben Barka's spirit to wander through the empty museum building of the former Fondation Louis Vuitton. It is a powerful image that sharply illustrates the intertwining of art, power and capital.

Vizor

In his film Vizor, Halloubi explores the boundaries of cinema and human relationships. The protagonist discovers that he has unknowingly married his sister and tries to escape his complex life. With a bold visual style, alternating colours, black and white, upside-down images and landscapes seen through the reflective visor of a helmet, Vizor is a cinematic essay on the insoluble dilemmas of life and the boundaries of art.

Hamza Halloubi

Hamza Halloubi (1982) lives and works in Brussels. His work moves between fiction and reality and explores themes such as migration, identity and post-colonialism.

De Pont Museum organised his first solo exhibition in 2015 and now has eight of his works in its collection. The auditorium is showing the short documentary Hamza Halloubi: In His Own Words, in which he talks about his vision, creative process and inspiration.
